For instance, the British Council, which was founded in 1930s, played a very significant role in furthering the teaching of English abroad and promoting a wider knowledge and understanding of British culture. In addition, some American private foundations such as some famous universities like Harvard and Yale, which are sponsored by commercial firms and government financed academic exchanges between the US and the abroad, also has supported the teaching of English and eventually the transmission of English.
To some degree, English’s wide spread can be paralleled with that of the computer, since they have a lot in common. The spread of English is as significant in its way as that of computer.
