Show a guitar to the class. Ask the student to come to the blackboard and have a try. At the same time, teacher write down the title on the blackboard”Unit 10 Can you play the guitar?”

Step2. Presentation (4 minutes)

Show a picture on the screen“ swim”.

Teacher asks:What does he do? (He swims.)

Can he swim? (Yes,he can.) Help students to answer.

Teach the other new words with the same way.(dance,sing,paint,speak English,play chess).

Step3.Game(3minutes)

Write the words and phrases on pieces of paper,ask three students come to the front and choose the paper,then do the action.Thew other students guess the words,teachern can asks”Can you …?Can he …?”

Step4.Presentation(6minutes)

On the screen teacher shows the pictures of the clubs, asks:

What club is this?(It’s an English club/a music club/a swimming club/an art club…) What club can we sing?(At a music club)

What can we do at a music club?(We can dance and play the guitar)

On the blackboard we can write ;Music Club-------sing,dance,play the guitar .

Deal with the other clubs like this.

On the blackboard we can design like this:

Unit 10 Can you play the guitar?

Art Club paint

Swimming Club swim

English Club speak English

Music Club sing,dance,play the guitar

Chess Club play chess

Baseball Club play baseball…

 

Then teacher asks: What club do you want to join? Help students to answer: I want to join the …club.

At first, teacher asks some students their ideas .Then students ask and answer in pairs.

Step 5 Deal with the exercises (18 minutes)

Task1:1a(4)

Look at the pictures on Page 59 1a.Points to the activities the people in each club are doing. Say something about each club’s activity. For example: This is a chess club. See the chess? They are playing chess.

Ask a student to read all the words, ask the students to match the words with the people.

Check the answers.

Task2:1b(5)

Play the recording the first time. Students only listen.

Play the recording a second time. Ask students to write a number next to the conversation they hear.

Read after the recording of 1b. Then ask the students to practice the conversations in pairs. Ask them to use the vocabulary from 1a.At last ask pairs to come to the front and act out their conversations.

Task3: 2a (4)

Ask the students to read the context in 2aon Page60.Ask one student to read the clubs in the box. Ask another two students to read the dialogue.

Play the recording the first time. Students only listen.

Play the recording again, Students circle.

Check their answers.

Task4: 2b(5)

Ask the students to look at the conversation of 2b and fill in the blanks.
